Boar bristles are a natural protein fibre, hand-woven into a bamboo head, so there is no nylon to break down. They are also softer on the gumline than the stiff nylon tips most electric heads ship with.
Yes. The bristles are cleaned and heat-treated during manufacturing, which also sets them to a consistent firmness. Rinse and stand the head upright to dry after brushing, exactly as you would with any brush, and replace it every one to three months.
Boar is the firmer of the two — the deep-clean option, and what most people start with. Horse is noticeably softer, which suits sensitive gums, a receding gumline, or anyone who finds boar too stiff. Both fit the same handle, so you can switch at any time or run one of each in a household.
